Jamaica’s white-sand beaches, laid-back culture, and stunning landscapes continue to pull more and more visitors to the beautiful island nation. As a result, airlines are offering more options for travelers to reach this preferred destination. The latest itinerary addition comes from American Airlines, with the addition of a non-stop flight option between the populous city of Austin, Texas, and the popular tourist hub, Montego Bay, Jamaica. On Saturday, June 4th, the inaugural flight took off around 8 a.m. and was received in Montego Bay by a welcoming party of Jamaican Government officials, including Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett.

“American Airlines is the largest commercial passenger airline flying into Jamaica, so this new route serves to continue growing our valued partnership,” said Bartlett in a press release. “The new non-stop flight from Austin complements the carrier’s existing service out of Dallas Fort Worth and provides more access to Jamaica from this important U.S. state to support our booming travel recovery.”

When Bartlett was giving his welcome to the 66 passengers aboard the new flight, he stated that the summer season of 2022 would be the best the country has had concerning tourism figures. With the waning of the global pandemic, Jamaica’s tourism sector has been seeing a steady recovery. The country dropped all of its Covid requirements at the beginning of April, making travel to the country more accessible than it has been for years. This, coupled with the cabin fever brought on by the pandemic, has driven a significant increase in the number of bookings the country has seen.

With the addition of the new flights out of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), Jamaica is sure to see even more demand from future travelers ready to experience all the country has to offer. Guests will board an Embraer 175 aircraft when they take advantage of the new flights that will run every Saturday, year-round. The new itinerary is the 8th international route that American Airlines has added to its offerings at AUS, proving that it sees Montego Bay as an important addition to its non-stop international destinations.

The new offering from American Airlines is one of several that have been introduced in the past few weeks. Frontier, JetBlue, and Emirates Airlines have all added flight itineraries to Jamaica to their current flight offerings. Frontier introduced new direct flights from Miami to Kingston, Jamaica, that began on May 5th. JetBlue announced that they would be increasing their number of seats between the U.S. and Jamaica by 40% this year, higher than pre-pandemic numbers from 2019. Finally, Emirates announced that they will now be offering flights to Jamaica for the first time in the airline’s history.

The addition of the new flights coming out of Austin, as well as the flights from additional airlines, are certainly welcome events for travelers. With flights to Jamaica becoming more expensive due to increased demand, any additional flight to the country is good news for those planning a future vacation to Jamaica.

American Airlines’ choice of Montego Bay as its 8th international destination out of AUS is a wise decision for growing its customer base. Ranked as one of the top destinations for American travelers for the summer of 2022, the popular tourist city has something to offer everyone. From a quiet getaway to an action-packed tropical adventure, every traveler will find something to pique their interest in Jamaica’s third most populated city.

As more and more travelers begin to look to Jamaica as a place to experience the vacation of a lifetime, airlines will undoubtedly continue to add more flights to the Jamaican airports to their offerings. Every new flight added spells good news for future travelers. As demand increases for Jamaica, the addition of new flights will help to keep airline tickets more affordable and accessible for travelers to the enchanting island that is Jamaica.
