Jamaica is a beautiful country with a lot to offer. From stunning landscapes and sunrises to friendly locals and exciting activities, there is something for everyone in Jamaica. It makes perfect sense that Jamaica has been ranked number one for bookings this summer for U.S. travelers. This announcement was made on Monday by Flight Centre Travel Group Limited (FLT) and the Jamaica Tourist Board during a meeting at FLT’s headquarters in New Jersey.

FLT executives were also optimistic about bookings for Jamaican holidays for the upcoming seasons in 2023 and 2024. “This is great news as we actively work on recovery in the U.S., which is our biggest source market. Based on these booking numbers Jamaica may experience the best summer ever since the pandemic,” said Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett. “Part of our recovery strategy is meeting with our long-standing tourism partners like Flight Centre to get a feel of market sentiment and projections, and we are happy that Jamaica remains top of mind.”

Donovan White, the Director of Tourism, commented that Jamaica is actively working to recover from the effects of the recent recession caused by the pandemic and that it would not be possible without the help of partners like Flight Centre. The Flight Centre Travel Group is a global company that operates travel businesses in multiple countries across the world. It has a presence in 23 countries, including the U.S., Europe, the U.K., South Africa, UAE, and Asia. They are certainly a powerful ally when it comes to bringing more money to the tourism industry in Jamaica.

Jamaica welcomed approximately 27,000 visitors during the weekend of March 3-6, 2022. This is the highest number for any weekend since Jamaica reopened its borders to visitors in June 2020. Bartlett projects that, if current trends continue, Jamaica will see 925,000 stopover arrivals and earn $1.17 billion in the first four months of the year.

By the end of the year, he predicts that visitor arrivals will reach 2.92 million, and earnings will total US$3.58 billion – close to what was earned pre-COVID-19. People from all over are flocking to Jamaica. The country just had a record number of British nationals visit during February.

Popular destinations for travelers heading to Jamaica include Negril, Montego Bay, Kingston, Port Antonio, Ocho Rios, and many others. Each area has its own unique characteristics and culture, with something to offer for every vacation style. Three of the most popular destinations are outlined below:

Popular Jamaican Destinations
- Negril: Negril is a beautiful resort area located at the western tip of the island, just over an hour from Montego Bay. The site is known for its stunning white-sand beaches and perfect conditions for swimming and snorkeling. The atmosphere is relaxed and laid-back, with casual dress being the norm.
- Montego Bay: Montego Bay is a resort destination located on the northwest coast of Jamaica. The area is known for its white-sand beaches, palm-dotted hills, and lush meadowland. Montego Bay has become the country’s premier tourist destination and offers more guestrooms than any other part of the island; and was just recently named one of the top destinations for U.S. travelers this summer.
- Kingston: Located at the foot of the Blue Mountains, Kingston is a bustling port city overlooking one of the world’s largest natural harbors. With a population of over half a million people, it is Jamaica’s cultural and economic center, boasting a variety of historical and cultural attractions and lively nightlife and dining options.

There are many reasons people dream of visiting Jamaica; whether it be its vibrant and unique culture, the energy and beauty found on the shores, or the charm and authenticity of Jamaican culture, a trip to the beautiful island nation is an experience like no other. It’s no surprise that Jamaica remains on top of the list for summer bookings, and will likely remain there for years to come.
